November 6, 2015—San Francisco—Two of San Francisco’s top youth soccer clubs, the San Francisco Glens and Evolution FC, announced today that USSF “A” and NSCAA Premier licensed coach, Shaun Ramsden, has been appointed Director of Player Development for San Francisco Glens Evolution, the new soccer club forming as a result of a pending Glens and Evolution merger. In addition, Shaun will also be the head coach for two of the club’s top-tier teams—the 2002 Boys and 2003 boys. Finally, he will be joining and working closely with SF Glens Evolution’s technical committee on running a multi-week winter training program, beginning this January, for SF Glens Evolution players.
“We’re delighted to have Shaun join the ever-increasing ranks of top coaches coming to SF Glens Evolution,” said Mike McNeil, Director of Coaching for SF Glens and future Executive Director of Coaching (U13-U18) at SF Glens Evolution. “Coaching excellence and coaching development is at the center of our new club. We could think of no other coach more well-suited to help us implement our ambitious plans than Shaun, and we’re excited to have his input and experience.” Currently, Shaun is the head coach of Evolution FC ‘02 Boys Black, a U13 team playing in the top division of NorCal Premier. In addition, he runs an innovative soccer consulting business, Tekkers, which has worked closely with Evolution FC over the past year. Shaun is also currently enjoying being the assistant coach for San Francisco City FC, a men’s semi-professional team here in San Francisco and a team that made waves earlier this fall by qualifying for the US Open Cup. “Shaun has proven himself one of the very best soccer coaches in San Francisco,” said Dave Anderson, Founder of Evolution FC and future Executive Director of Coaching (U8-U12) at SF Glens Evolution “He’s worked with our Evolution players and teams for over a year now, and the results are extraordinary. The kids love the training, the parents appreciate his positive learning environment, and best of all everyone sees the results on the field.” Prior to coaching in San Francisco, Shaun worked with Global Image Sports, a sports management company that represents multiple European football franchises, including the West Ham United International Academy, of which he is still an affiliated coach and scout. In addition, he has over ten years experience as a Director of Coaching and Head Coach with top clubs in Dallas, Miami and New Jersey. Originally from northwest England, Shaun has spent nearly twenty years in the United States, navigating it’s often-shifting soccer landscape. If it’s been a roundabout journey, it comes as no surprise to Coach Ramsden. “I’ve been known to do things a little differently,” he said. “Too much time and energy is often lost over-complicating programs, or players and their families chasing the next big thing. I take a player approach that connects with the kids in a way that helps build skills and a mentality that will serve them well as they carry on in both soccer and life. Great coaching also starts at the club level, where professionalism must be a part of the culture. It’s something I see at SF Glens Evolution and one of the reasons I’m excited to be joining them in this new chapter of San Francisco soccer.” Coach Ramsden will begin working with the club’s leadership in January while he continues to work with his current Evolution team. Shaun’s San Francisco Glens Evolution head coaching roles begin with fall 2016 season. Coming soon, however, will be a winter training program so that SF Glens and Evolution players can use their winter break away from team play to fine tune their fitness and skills before the start of the spring season. More details on this program will be provided shortly. Comments are closed.
