I want to thank all teams that participated and came to San Francisco for a great weekend of soccer! We had 257 teams, 7 locations and 35 Champions crowned. I saw many happy faces on the players. The quality of the competition was very good and in most cases was very appropriate for each level.
We really want to see the teams back every year as we learn from challenges that we discover or surface from your insightful feedback so that we can continue to create a great experience for your team and club. Please send us your email with comment at [email protected] or directly to our tournament staff at [email protected] . Also, please know that we have a small lost and found box that has some items that may have been lost. If you lost something, please send us an email and we can check to see if it is yours. In addition, we have other fantastic tournaments coming up that we hope to see you at: 1) The Golden Gate International
2) The Kevin Maguire Celtic Cup
We really appreciate you choosing our tournaments, we know you have choices and we hope to have you back year after year! Thank you for making the San Francisco Evolution Cup 2016 a huge success! Below you will learn about check-in, parking, weather and some of the things available at each game site. We expect mostly local teams to show up and help us get some of this completed before the games begin. ALL other teams who do not check in on Friday will check in at the Field where they play their 1st game. Teams should arrive a minimum of 1 hour before the first game on Saturday. Only the Manager or coach is needed with the passes and roster (US CLUB or CYSA Goldenrod, or AYSO). PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR ROSTER FOR THIS EVENT ON GOTSOCCER- THIS IS WHAT WE USE TO POPULATE THE GAME CARDS. (please complete this by Wednesday evening). 3) Weather: The weather report is calling for sun over the weekend and low 70's. Well, if you have ever been to San Francisco....never go anywhere without a jacket handy- it is known to get cold and windy rather quickly. 4) Things to know about the facility you are at: Crocker Amazon: 5 artificial turf fields which has 2 parking lots which fill up fast! Please avoid parking on the dirt which is super tempting as it looks safe and legal...but it is NOT! You will get a ticket and never want to come back. Food at this location is served by the building which has a walk up window and the specialty served here are Papusas (yum). Service here is sometimes slow so allow for time or you may be frustrated. Also, be mindful that you are in a big city and keep an eye on all of your items. Do not leave cell phones, etc unattended. This location also has random people who walk around and recycle your water bottles- they are not tournament staff, but have become part of the landscape at this location. South Sunset: 3 smaller artificial turf fields near the zoo on 41st Ave & Wawona Street. Parents will watch the games from the outer sidelines of field 1 and 3 and squeeze in on field 2. No food will be served at this location, but one of our tournament sponsors is located around the corner: Java Beach> A great place to order coffee and bagels in the morning to gourmet signature sandwiches. West Sunset: 2 Grass Fields. No food located here, but you will have a great view of the ocean on a sunny day! Beach Chalet: 8 smaller fields artificial turf. Polo Fields: 6 Full size Grass Fields. Be careful where you park as this place is hard to tell if it is illegal or not? You should be ok parking around the complex, but stay off grass areas which will certainly land you a ticket. This complex has 2 main tunnel entrances on the south and North sides, but is also accessible from the west side. Here you will have A Fine Design (Tournament Merchandise), Food, Smoothies, etc. Treasure Island: We are excited to host for the 1st time at this location! 3 Grass Fields. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
Last night at the Irish Cultural Center, the SF Glens Evolution Board of Directors introduced the over 100 people in attendance to a new city soccer club--SF Glens Evolution. The club is the result of a merger between SF Junior Glens and Evolution FC, and establishes the biggest youth soccer club in San Francisco, representing over 100 teams and nearly 1,000 players. Yet, as evidenced by the presentation last evening, the new club isn't about size. San Francisco Glens Evolution is determined to put San Francisco soccer on the map and compete with the very best soccer clubs in California and beyond. "It's been a long journey" said Pat Maguire, Board Member and Director of the Micro Academy. "But years from now I think we'll look back and realize that tonight was the beginning of something special in San Francisco." Pat went on to share his personal story--one of heartbreaking loss, commitment, and hope-- as well as his close connection to both clubs. He was then followed by Dave Anderson, founder of Evolution FC who echoed Pat's sentiments that the time was now for taking San Francisco soccer to another level. Dave referenced how Evolution FC went from just a handful of teams to a club that boasts nearly every top local team across every age of the boys program. Sean Shannon, a Glens legend, also took a few minutes to honor the past and make all in attendance aware of the great soccer tradition the word Glens carries in San Francisco. Executive Director of Coaching, Mike McNeil then outlined the clubs ambitions for 2016, which focussed on providing a complete player pathway from micro to top-level, academy play; hiring and supporting top coaches, launching a number of player development programs across all age groups, and strengthening the club's girls' program. Chris Flanagan, also a San Francisco Glens Evolution Board Member, coach, and U10-U12 Age Group Director, also spoke about why SF Glens Evolution would succeed. "Like many group endeavors it's about people, vision, and culture," said Flanagan. "This club has one of the finest collection of people you could imagine, people committed to success. And the vision checks all the boxes on what a great club should be. Now, it's up to all of us to develop the kind of culture we've spoken about this evening and make it part of our every day work for the club." Soon after, the club's new logo and look were unveiled. Several young players took to the stage to display the new home (black and green stripe) and away (white with center stripe) kit as supplied by SF Glens Evolution equipment partner Admiral. Shining in the background was the club's new logo with the new three-word motto--Tradition, Excellence, Community--that will serve as the cornerstone of the kind of club that San Francisco Glens Evolution will be. In some ways the kids were the hit of the evening, many in attendance stood, clapped, and took picture of the youngsters as they showed off their new uniforms. Finally, after a question and answer session, the meeting adjourned and many stayed to mingle, make new friends of old foes, or share a few drinks at the Irish Cultural Center bar. Nearly all seemed excited about the ambitious plan, the team in charge, and what lies in store for San Francisco youth soccer. Afterward, Leo Cassidy, SF Glens Evolution Board Member, put it this way: "This is a great group we have here. There is a very bright future ahead." All SF Glens and Evolution FC families are invited to join us at the United Irish Cultural Center on November 12th, from 7-9pm to discuss the launch of SF Glens Evolution. The center is located at 2700 45th Avenue and parking is available along Sloat Blvd across from the San Francisco Zoo and Java Beach.
