2023/24 Program
2023-24 SEASON PROGRAM
In each soccer season (Fall and Spring), SF Glens Goalkeeper Academy is offering 4 levels of classes: Initial, Foundation, Development and Performance. Goalkeepers are assigned to a level based on a combination of factors, including age, experience, technical proficiency, and athletic ability.
Our focus is always the development of the player, and our aim is to maximize learning by offering training aligned to the ability of each goalkeeper. We want our Goalkeepers to feel challenged, but not overwhelmed. We want them to feel comfortable in making mistakes and learning from them. We want them to work hard, in a fun and age-appropriate environment. Ultimately, we want them to develop the confidence that is necessary to succeed in one of the most challenging, but exciting positions on the soccer pitch.
We are always looking at the game and how it evolves and use quantitative and qualitative analysis to shape our program content and specific sessions. Some statistics that support our training structure: 76% of the goalkeepers’ ball touches within a game are with their feet. When we look at the remaining 24% of the touches they make while saving a shot, 40% of those saves are a combination of hands and mobility. The rest of the touches consist of 26% off a cross, 20% diving saves and 13% 1v1 challenges.
SF Glens goalkeeper sessions and methodology reflect our designed Goalkeeper Curriculum. Goalkeepers have one dedicated goalkeeper practice per week, which is run separately from their teams. They also practice with their respective teams twice per week, on average. This combination is critical in the development of both the technical and tactical component of the position. The modern goalkeeper needs to be a 360 degrees player and operate in sync with the rest of the team.
For younger ages, the players to coach ratio is 8 or 10:1. For older ages it is 4 or 6:1.
No scheduled practices are planned for this January, and activity will resume with Spring 2024 pre-season work in the second half of February, followed by regular Goalkeeper Academy sessions for March-May. The Spring 24 Program will start on the week of Monday March 11th and continue until the week of May 6th.
If you are not a SF Glens player, you are welcome to come and check the program at any time. If interested, please send an email to Sebastiano Tevarotto at [email protected]
