Q: What age does recreational program start?
The program is designed for 2nd grader to 4th grader
Q: Which league players register with?
SFYS (SF Youth Soccer) league organizes recreational games. Therefore, players will need to register with SF Youth Soccer (SFYS) using their online registration system called SQWAD
Q: What is the timeline to register?
For fall season, the registration closes mid May to play for following fall season. For spring season, the registration closes the first week of December. The deadline is set by SFYS league.
Q: Why the registration closes so early?
Per SFYS, "We recognize that most teams have barely begun their spring season when they are forced to make roster decisions about the fall. Many players want to see how the spring goes before committing to fall soccer. Please sign up with the kids who can commit, then add others later. We know this is stressful for everyone, but the SFYS timelines are unavoidable, for several reasons. First, we have to follow the SAY Soccer, USYS CalNorth and NorCal guidelines. Also, we have to secure game field permits while teams must secure practice field permits, and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department can only accommodate youth leagues if we know our exact field needs early. In addition, too many families are unavailable in the summers to complete registration. The best way to deal with this stress is warn parents early and often of what will be needed. After the first year, parents and coaches get used to it and it’s not as frustrating."
Q: How many practices per week?
For 2nd to 3rd graders, it is once a week practice. As for 4th grade, it is two practices a week. However, SF Rec and Park Department (SFRPD) has a right to change this pending the number of available fields.
Q: How long is the season?
For fall season, it is 11 to 12 weeks. For spring season, it is 9 to 10 weeks.
Q: Can my player for play for two teams?
No. Your player can only register for one team. However, there is a guest player policy that allows players to guest play for other recreational team. Please refer to the guest player policy by SFYS for each season.
